Day 4 was for us to explore the city of Berlin and its rich history. Berlin is a city that you really can’t not know about. It was the epicentre of World War II and continued to retain importance as the capital of Germany.
Our first stop of the day was at Brandenburg gate, which is a landmark of Berlin. There were plenty of people waiting for photo ops as you can see! This is the historic political centre of Berlin.
As you walk through the gate into the park, you will see this iconic building that is plastered in history textbooks across the world. This is, of course, the Reichstag, which as we all know *mysteriously* caught on fire in 1933. The building has obviously been reconstructed and is open to the public

We then decided to check out a Holocaust museum named ‘The Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe’ which was about 15 minutes away. This was easily one of the most depressing things I’ve ever experienced but was really educational. The architecture of the memorial above the museum was really apt as well, as you can see people disappear among the grey stone slabs
We were growing hungry as lunch time approached so we decided to take a train to the Hackescher Markt area for lunch. We ended up having lunch in a food court of a mall somewhere here, where I had the most atrocious Tom Yam I have ever had in my life.
We also had some time to explore the pretty streets in the area. It all looked really uptown and classy!
As we walked around, we came across a museum cluster. The one pictured above was the Alte Nationalgalerie for Romantic, Impressionist & early Modernist art but there were others such as Vorderasiatisches Museum Berlin and Neues Museum which famously holds Nefertiti’s bust. We unfortunately didn’t have the time but it was nice to see the architecture!
Finally, tired from a long day, we needed some good dinner. We had initially planned to eat at Cocolo Ramen, a popular ramen place but unbeknownst to us it was closed. No matter, we still have one more day! We had dinner at the nearby Shiso Burger instead, and I have to say, it was really good! A satisfying meal to end the day.
